Do we call torture by its name? Torture is legally defined by the UN Convention Against Torture and that definition includes acts of abuse that have occurred as part of U.S. and allied interrogation policies. Nevertheless, euphemisms like "enhanced interrogation," "harsh interrogation," or "special techniques" are used widely by U.S. media to describe practices that are more accurately called torture.
